Victory in Lowell!

unnamed_(5).jpgOn Tuesday night, the Lowell City Council voted 8-1 in favor of a resolution supporting divestment of the state pension fund from fossil fuels.

This is a big deal: it makes Lowell the 14th city in Massachusetts to vote in favor of fossil fuel divestment, and it comes after years of tireless work by 350 Mass Lowell.

The California legislature just voted to divest from coal, the University of California has sold its coal and tar sands stocks, and it's clear that momentum is building. This is a moment to celebrate!

Mass Power Forward Officially Launches!

Drumroll please...the Mass Power Forward coalition has officially launched!

Screen_Shot_2015-09-10_at_1.11.51_PM.pngThis new coalition brings together more than 90 environmental organizations, community groups, faith congregations, and small businesses from across the Commonwealth. We launched yesterday with press conferences in Boston, Weymouth, Holyoke, West Peabody, Fall River and Pittsfield.

You can check out the photos from yesterday's Mass Power Forward launch on Facebook and Twitter, and read all about it in these great articles from The Associated PressThe Berkshire EagleMass Live and The Patriot Ledger

This coalition has come together because we know that the next few months are a critical time. Our state is poised to spend billions of dollars to replace aging power plants and power lines. We can spend that money on polluting and unnecessary fossil fuel and nuclear plants and pipelines, or we can fix existing pipelines, improve efficiency, and invest in clean, local energy like wind and solar.

Right now, legislators are debating some of the most important energy policy decisions in decades, and on the afternoon of September 29, they're holding a hearing on energy at the State House. 350 Mass and the rest of the Mass Power Forward coalition will be there to show them the strength of our grassroots movement. Save the date now -- we'll want to pack the room!

Mass Power Forward Coalition Will Launch Wednesday!

Screen_Shot_2015-09-07_at_10.58.32_PM.pngOn September 9, 70+ environmental organizations, faith and economic justice groups, and clean energy businesses will come together to launch the brand-new Mass Power Forward campaign and call for a just transition to clean energy in Massachusetts. Over the next few years, Massachusetts will spend billions of dollars to replace aging power plants and power lines. We have a choice: we can spend that money on polluting and unnecessary new fossil fuel and nuclear power plants and pipelines, or we can fix existing pipelines, improve efficiency and reduce energy waste, and invest in clean, local energy like wind and solar. The Mass Power Forward campaign has come together to demand the clean energy future that we know we need!

Watch for updates on Twitter and Facebook -- we'll be using the hashtag #MAPowerForward -- or join us in person if you can!
