Last week, I joined 20 other students from across the state and spanning 6 different colleges in putting aside our classes and commitments and traveling to the front steps of the Massachusetts State House.

There, we and over 60 community organizers from 350 Mass, Union of Concerned Scientists, Fossil Free Media, Sierra Club and more declared to our legislators that they have a choice to make: to force US to pay for climate chaos or to MAKE POLLUTERS PAY for our climate resilient future. It was so empowering to me to see intergenerational support for this bill and larger climate action across the state! Here is what some other students said about their own experiences:

“It was an amazing event at the statehouse. I loved seeing everybody celebrate and show interest towards such an important cause. Everyone was super nice and it was one of the best experiences I’ve had in the environmental movement.”

“As someone who's usually stuck in the "Wellesley bubble" and occasionally feeling down about the state of the world, it's amazing to be part of an action that was very student-led and intergenerational. I am so inspired by all the students and the hard work that's been put into this campaign. I love the substance and tangibility of the climate superfund bill in MA."

 - Iris Zhan, Wellesley College

And of course, this is only the beginning. Both in that the Make Polluters Pay bill is only the beginning of building more resilient communities in Massachusetts, and that intergenerational organizing is crucial to the fight for a better future.
