Massachusetts regulators are working to implement a new siting & permitting process for clean energy infrastructure. There is currently an open public comment period on draft regulations concerning many hard-fought environmental and environmental justice provisions in the 2024 Climate Law, with key upcoming deadlines of October 31 and November 7.

For too long EJ communities have not been meaningfully included in the processes that determine what gets built in their neighborhoods, leading to the disproportionate siting of polluting facilities and a legacy of health, economic, and environmental burdens. This new siting process presents a critical opportunity to address historic injustice, ensure that the transition to a clean energy future is equitable and just, and solidify our commitment to growing clean energy while honoring our natural world. The details of these draft regulations will determine whether these promises are fulfilled or if they become empty gestures.
