At Better Future Project, we are committed to climate justice and human rights for all people. We understand that, to protect everyone, we must act in solidarity with those on the frontlines of our environmental and social crises.
We have already seen powerful actors here in Massachusetts and across the country aim attacks at vulnerable communities including immigrants and trans folks. We cannot blame our social and political problems on those who are most marginalized. Instead we’ll train our ire on the powerful: the oligarchs, institutions, and corporations who are causing real harm and the politicians who do their bidding.
Just as we hold the powerful to account, we must also reflect and hold ourselves and our own communities accountable to our values which are rooted in justice and compassion.
Our work at Better Future Project will continue. We will organize to build resilient, empowered communities that keep people safe and take bold action to ensure human rights and craft a safe, stable environment for all, Massachusetts and beyond.
What is climate justice?
Better Future Project uses the framework of “Climate Justice” to address climate issues, because we see how the causes of climate change can be traced to powerful, extractive institutions, corporations, and governments while the impacts of climate change, like extreme weather, heat, rising seas, and more, are felt first and hardest by communities who are least responsible and least able to respond to the crisis. Climate change is an issue that intersects with other issues, like immigration, incarceration, racial violence, and poverty. Therefore, our approach to fighting it must intersect with these other issues as well. Climate change is an injustice exacerbator, compounding the impacts of other injustices. Our vision for climate justice, then, is justice for all.
Climate justice means indigenous justice, economic justice, racial justice, language justice, and more. Our victory is not just a function of parts-per-million carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, but the realization of a shared dream for peace, prosperity, and health as we mitigate the worst impacts of climate change and foster resilience for the centuries to come.
